3 Idiots

Rancho, played by Aamir Khan, is an open-minded and unique person who has touched the lives of many. In fact his two friends, portrayed by Madhavan and Sharman Joshi, miss Rancho and decide to go on an adventure to find him. “3 Idiots” quickly becomes a collection of flashbacks and lost promises and bets.

As the two friends begin their journey they quickly get caught up in a bet they had once made to crash a wedding. But instead they crash a funeral and the whole thing goes haywire. Amongst all the crazy happenings, our characters have more personal and deep journeys along with the physical one. As the scenery becomes vast landscapes, we reminisce with our newly made friends as they remember all they have been through with Rancho and how much he has affected their lives. Along this trip down memory lane we meet Pia, played by Kareena Kapoor, who was romantically involved with Rancho during their college days. The boys also remember their mentor Viru Sahastrabuddhe, played by Boman Irani.

We soon learn that Rancho had disappeared quite suddenly after college, which is why his friends had decided to go find him. They are left with so many unanswered questions such as: who is Rancho? Where did he go? Better yet, where did he come from? In school these friends were named the three idiots and now a mystery surrounds the original idiot.

Aamir Khan has recently become quite selective in the films he does. Each of his starrers has been a movie with a message. For all these reasons, “3 Idiots” has been a highly anticipated film from the time its production started. The world awaits the Christmas weekend release to see if “3 Idiots” will live up to all the expectations!

My Name is Khan

Earning a whopping $3,635,000 after only 17 days after its release, “My Name is Khan” became the top-grossing film in North America for Bollywood icon Shahrukh Khan. The highly anticipated release hit the silver screen on February 12,, 2010 after the release was pushed back a few times.

“My Name is Khan” follows a Muslim man on a journey across America to win back his true love. The main character, Rizwan Khan, who suffers from Aspergers syndrome, is played by Shahrukh Khan. Khan’s character believes that there are two types of people in this world; the good who do good deeds and the bad who do bad deeds. After the death of his mother, Rizvan follows his brother to the United States where he meets and falls in love with a Hindu woman, Mandira, played by Kajol. Despite his brother’s objection, Rizvan marries Mandira and loves her boy Sameer as if he were his own. After the terrorist attacks on 9/11, 2001, attitudes toward Muslims change for the worse, even in the usually open-minded city of San Francisco.

Besides this intrguging plot, there was a lot of hype surrounding one of Bollywood’s most coveted on- screen couples, Shahrukh Khan and Kajol, hitting the silver screen yet again. It had been a while since the “Dilwale Dulhania le Jayenge” pair was featured in a film together and the public could not wait for the release. The Karan Johar directed flick was shot in San Fransico and the public’s anticipation grew stronger as SRK, Kajol and Karan flew overseas to the U.K. and the U.S. to promote the film right before it released.

The movie turned out to be a mega box-office hit and already a Bollywood classic!

The waiter who is in desperate need of money for the treatment of his sick mother agrees to help. The husband in return promises to pay him a large sum of money if he pretends to be the boyfriend of the mistress so that the suspicious wife is thrown off the scent. The mistress, who isn't as smart, believes that her lover will leave his wife and marry her. To add more to the picture, the mistress' ex-boyfriend (Sohail Khan) to whom she dumped to be with a married man is still in love with her, although he does have an anger management problem. What follows is a series of mistaken identities and misunderstandings, culminating in one mammoth laugh riot

Aladin

Sujoy Ghosh's latest film "Aladin" is a fantasy flick. Set in the year 2007, the film is based on the fantasy version from the book "One Thousand and One Nights" which was later turned into the Disney hit, "Aladdin." Ritesh Deshmukh plays the role of Aladdin while Amitabh Bachchan plays the role of the Genie. Also in the film is Sanjay Dutt, Juhi Chawla, Sameera Reddy, and Jackie Fernandez.

Eros International will be using their branch of EyeQube Studios to work on the major visual effects that will be in the film. CEO of EyeQube, Charles Darby, has been in the industry for over 14 years and has worked on visual effects for over 47 films. The FX giant has added his expertise to The Matrix, Titanic, and the Fifth Element. According to Darby, there are 1,500 visual effects going into "Aladin." The film will show a 3D computer generated city with over 3,000 houses.

Eros has much confidence in the film. After seeing a first cut of the film, they have decided to give the green light on a sequel. According to the president of Eros International, Sunil Lulla, "I am confident with Aladin, we have a Hindi film for a global audience. It is going to be a complete family entertainer with universal appeal as there is a little something for everyone - lots of magic and fantasy for the kids along with action adventure and romance for the youth. Adding to that, the film guarantees some of the best and most complex visual effects seen in Indian cinema, hence the sequel will be a bigger challenge with higher expectations."

Music is done by Vishal-Shekar and Amitabh Bachchan offers some vocals along with Sanjay Dutt. The film was in trouble after Eros lost money on their last major project, "Drona" and was reluctant to continue financing "Aladin."
